Images 2.6: OpenAI's image model adds GIF creation to ChatGPT

OpenAI has released Images 2.6, a new image generation model. It is available across ChatGPT, Codex and the API, and OpenAI says it offers faster generation and more precise editing.

The headline addition is GIF creation. According to The Verge and The Decoder, ChatGPT can now make animated GIFs from a text prompt or an uploaded photo. Users can then change the animation speed, edit individual frames and share the result. The Decoder says the model keeps characters recognizable across frames, which suits flipbook-style animation.

Before this update, The Verge notes, ChatGPT could not natively create GIFs. For developers, OpenAI also lists new API controls, though the material does not detail what they are. The material does not say how Images 2.6 relates to OpenAI's recent GPT models.
